Q1: What is TPU waterproof repair tape used for?
A: It is used for local repairs on flexible waterproof products such as tents, tarps, inflatables, rainwear, bags, awnings, and outdoor covers. It is not a substitute for rebuilding a badly damaged panel or seam.
Q2: Is TPU tape the same as heat-weldable seam tape?
A: No. Some TPU tapes are made for heat, RF, or ultrasonic welding, while this page describes a self-adhesive repair format. Confirm the process before ordering because the adhesive face and film construction are different.
Q3: Will clear TPU tape stick to PVC or coated fabric?
A: It may, but surface coatings, plasticizers, dirt, and fabric finishes affect the bond. Test the exact tape on the real material first, especially for inflatable products or long-term outdoor use.
Q4: Can we apply it while the product is wet?
A: No. Water, condensation, oil, and dust can stop the adhesive from wetting out. Dry and clean the repair area, then apply with firm pressure in a warm, controlled environment when possible.
Q5: Should the patch be larger than the hole?
A: Yes. Leave a clean overlap onto sound material around the damage. Round the corners and avoid placing the edge directly on a fold or high-stress crease unless the product instructions specifically allow it.
Q6: Can repaired inflatables be inflated immediately?
A: It is safer to let the bond settle according to the adhesive supplier’s instructions before full inflation or heavy use. A small repair should also be checked for edge lift and air loss afterward.
Q7: What thicknesses and formats are common?
A: Public references include about 0.33 mm tape. Rolls, strips, sheets, and die-cut shapes can be discussed, but the final value depends on the SKU.
