Building & Decoration Tape
- Butyl Deck Joist Tape Manufacturer
1.TAPE SPECIFICATIONS
These are the standard SKUs. Custom runs take about 1 weeks longer.
| Item | Standard Spec (tolerance in notes) |
| Material | Modified butyl rubber + TPU film |
| Adhesive | Butyl rubber compound. Tack: 18-22 N/25mm (varies ±2N by ambient temp during production) |
| Width tolerance | Nominal 2″, 4″, 6″ (actual: ±1.5mm). We run 1.5″ and custom widths on request but MOQ jumps to 2K rolls. |
| Roll length | 50ft most common. 75ft gets heavy (harder to handle on site), so we only do that for warehouse buyers. |
| Thickness | 0.7mm/1mm. The 0.7mm is overkill for most jobs but marine contractors request it. |
| Key Features | Waterproof (tested to 48hr submersion)
UV Resistant – we claim 15+ years but oldest confirmed install is 2012 Temperature Range: -40°F to 180°F (standard formula works 32-160°F) Self-seals around fasteners (butyl flows back, leaves small dimple) Medium tack – repositionable for ~30 seconds before full bond Won’t tear PT lumber or bleed through (unlike some cheaper tapes) |
| Best for | Rim joists, ledger boards, sill plates. Works on PT lumber, cedar, Trex, metal flashing. NOT for underwater (it’s waterproof, not submersible). |
| Certifications | ISO9001:2015. SGS test report from 2023 available for download. |
| MOQ | 1,000 rolls for standard sizes. |
| Production time | Usually 7-10 days once deposit clears. |
| Packing | Individual Shrink-wrapped. |
| Payment | 30% T/T upfront, 70% before shipping. We’ve done L/C for orders over $15K. |
2. WHY BUILDERS REORDER FROM US
(Based on what repeat customers mentioned in emails and calls)
💬 “It actually sticks in winter”
Toronto contractor told us their previous supplier’s tape wouldn’t grab below 50°F. Ours worked at 35°F during an October install (standard formula). For colder: ask about winter-grade.
🔨 Doesn’t fight you during install
Some tapes are so sticky they fold on themselves. Ours has medium tack until pressed down, then full bond kicks in after ~20 minutes. Makes it less frustrating on site.
📐 Custom widths without crazy MOQ
Need 3.5″ instead of 4″? If you can do 2,000 rolls, we’ll custom-slit it. Took us 3 tries to dial in the process but now it’s smooth.
📞 We answer emails same day
Lee handles North America inquiries (she’s in the office 8am-6pm China time, so usually responds within 12 hours even with timezone difference).
📦 Honest about lead times
If we’re backed up, we’ll say so upfront. Last Feb we were running 25 days – told customers before they paid deposit. Better than promising 15 and missing it.
💰 FOB pricing that makes sense
We’re usually $0.15-0.30 less per roll than the big brands (3″ x 75ft comparison). Not the cheapest on Alibaba, but those quotes often hide setup fees.
3. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
(Questions we get a lot)
Q1: Will this work on pressure-treated lumber that’s still a bit wet?
A: Probably yes if it’s just damp from recent rain. We tested it at 12% moisture and it held. If the wood is literally soaking wet (water beads when you touch it), let it dry for a day first. The butyl will stick but not bond as strong initially.
Q2: Can I get samples before ordering 3,000 rolls?
A: Yeah – we send 2 rolls (usually 2″ x 50ft) via FedEx for about $45 shipping. Free tape, you cover freight. If you need like 20 rolls to test on an actual job site, that’s $120 + shipping, but we credit it back if you order within 6 months.
Q3: What if I need 5,000 rolls with my logo printed on the tape?
A: We can do that, but logo printing bumps MOQ to 3K rolls (setup costs for the print roller). For 5K, we can do branded cartons instead – your logo/info on the box, tape itself stays plain. That’s worked for most distributors.
Q4: How long will this last on an outdoor deck?
A: We say 15+ years, but honestly our factory only started in 2009, so oldest real-world install we can verify is from 2012 and it’s still intact per the customer’s photos. The UV stabilizers should give it 15-20 years based on accelerated aging tests, but time will tell.
Q5: Do you ship to Canada? What about duties?
A: Yeah, we ship to Canada a lot (Vancouver and Toronto mostly). Usually FOB Ningbo, and the buyer arranges customs clearance. HS code is 3919.10.00 – duty is around 6.5% but check with your broker. We can do DDP to major cities but our forwarder adds 15% on top, so you’ll save money booking your own freight.
Q6: Can this go through Amazon FBA?
A: We’ve done it for 3 sellers so far. You need to give us the FBA label specs and box size limits (usually max 22 kg /carton). We can pack and label before shipping from our warehouse – adds about $0.25/roll for the extra labor. Or ship bulk to your 3PL and they repack.
Q7: What happens if the tape arrives damaged or doesn’t perform?
A: Production defects: we replace it (hasn’t happened yet). Shipping damage: file claim with freight company. Performance issues: send us photos/video of the problem and the batch number from the core tube – we’ll figure it out. Had one case where tape wouldn’t stick (turned out customer stored it in a freezer… butyl needs to be room temp before use).
